The Adventure Travel Race

Have you ever fantasized about taking part in a televised game show? Or have you ever dreamt of appearing on a reality TV show?

Well, your dream could become a reality this January, minus the lights, camera, and action. No, this is not some foolish Jersey Shore type stint. It’s the Amazing Race.

The interim course titled, “IDIS W17 The Adventure Travel Race," provides students with the opportunity to travel across the U.S. in hopes of outperforming their fellow classmates in an assortment of mental, physical, and competitive tasks.

“I cannot wait for this trip,” said Sophomore Aaron Meckes, who has already been accepted into the program, “I’m excited to travel across the country and compete in some fun games along the way.”

The trip will feature various U.S. cities such as Chicago, Phoenix, and Las Vegas, where students will compete in tasks including bungee jumping, wildlife watching, white water rafting, and mountain biking.

The course was designed by biology professor, Curtis Blankespoor, and women’s volleyball coach, Amber Warners, in hopes of “challenging students to further develop life skills," while also “learning about the origins of adventure travel and stewardship issues surrounding it."

Requirements for the course include: a partner, $1800, a free schedule from January 5-25, and a competitive and positive attitude.

This is one competition where everyone is a winner.
