English W80: Reading History, Writing Story

Students with an interest in writing, research, and discovery should take English W80: Reading History, Writing Story this January, according to the course instructor, Professor Nancy Hull.

The interim class “leads students through the process of researching, writing, and publishing works of historical fiction,” as noted in the course description.

The course also includes a week in Boston, which Professor Hull called “a city rich with history,” where students will conduct research at a variety of Boston’s libraries and museums.

According to Hull, the best reason to take the class is to give “yourself the opportunity to discover information that you weren’t looking for.”

She was also sure to mention “the community that develops in doing a project like this.”

This will be the second year the course is offered. Last year, students in the class traveled with Professor Hull to Chicago for their research. She said that the students were very positive about their experience.

As cited in the course description, English W80 “may fulfill an elective in the English major and Language Arts major and in the Language Arts and writing minors.”

The course fee is $915. English 101 is a prerequisite.
